THE NEW WITCHER 4 TAKES THE INTERNET BY STORM
The Witcher 3
It is no longer news that a new Witcher game is in development by series developer CD Projekt Red.
CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3 produced a gorgeous, massive, and completely explorable fantasy world that spun tales that gamers will be talking about for years to come, including unicorn sex. It catapulted the Witcher series to new heights of popularity, transforming its scarred, white-haired hero, Geralt, into a minor celebrity.
We all admire CD Projekt Red’s approach to DLC. With the 10-hour expansion Hearts of Stone in October 2015 and the beefier second expansion, Blood and Wine, in May 2016, The Witcher 3 (one of the best RPG games of all time) provided us with 16 free downloadable content packages. It’s really easy to become engrossed in The Witcher 3’s universe and just stay there.
In one of the statements made by the studio in March 2022, it was said, and I quote: “We’re happy to announce that the next instalment in The Witcher series of video games is currently in development, kicking off a new saga for the franchise.”
The Witcher 4
We’ve been given a new official teaser for Witcher 4, though we’re not clear if it is the continuation of the series from Witcher 3 or a new game entirely. We now have a brand new Witcher school medallion, which currently does not relate to any of the existing lore. As of now, there are only three different types of witcher schools, one being the wolf school, in which Geralt of Ravia was made into a witcher. We also know about the cat witcher school medallion, which is worn by Siri herself. And now, we have a brand-new medallion that was revealed in the teaser, and CD Projekt has now confirmed that it represents the Lynx.
The Lynx Witcher School is not something we are familiar with. This is because it is not present in any of the Witcher lore. It is rumoured that it was based on fan fiction.
We don’t yet know what form this new role-playing “saga” will take. So far, the only information available is a teaser image posted accompanying the announcement, as well as the fact that the new games will run on the Unreal Engine 5 rather than the in-house RED engine. Nonetheless, there are questions to be answered.
The game is going to be a completely new experience as we are going to be playing as a new character, and there has been lots of speculation that we might not be seeing any of the new characters like Geralt or Siri or any other character that is related to the Witcher series returning with the brand-new series of Witcher instalment games.
The game’s graphics display
The game is currently being developed in Unreal Engine 5 with the help of Epic Games, but this does not imply that it will only be available on the Epic Games store. It is just going to be an Unreal Engine 5 project.
It is known that Unreal Engine 5 is the best as of now, either for making high-quality video games or high-quality movies. For just about anything related to the graphics of a game or movie, the engine has been a top-notch player in the industry of video games.
This gives us a clear-cut view of what the gameplay mechanics and graphics are going to look like.

“Epic has been working on Unreal Engine 5 to let teams construct dynamic open landscapes on a scale and fidelity never seen before. We are really delighted to be working with CD PROJEKT RED to push the boundaries of interactive storytelling and gameplay, and this collaboration will benefit the developer community for years to come.”
When can we expect the new Witcher game to be released?
According to the official statement, “At this time, no other specifics surrounding the game such as a development schedule or release date are available.” And I believe you can safely deduce that whatever CDPR is working on is a long way off. As a result, we don’t anticipate the new Witcher game being released before 2025.
The Next Witcher Character
One of the interesting questions that have been bombarding the internet about the Witcher season 4, or so we call it, is “What will the main character look like?” For the time being, the main character could be either male or female. So far, there are so many conceptions about it all over the internet that a female witcher would be preferred over a male witcher.
Some speculations have also gone up about the ability or opportunity for the players to create their witcher character, but some others are still bent on seeing a proper witcher character that has a canon story for itself, and you don’t have the option of creating your character.
Having the developer create the character for us won’t be so bad and could satisfy our dire desire, as we have seen with Geralt of Ravia. And Geralt is pretty much a very amazing character with his traits, as we have seen throughout the game. Geralt has also become one of the most popular faces in gaming history.
Regardless of this information, some players are still bent on wanting to create their character. This opportunity cannot be completely ruled out because we can’t tell what the developers are going to end up doing.
The Witcher 3 is an amazing game that will keep the fans on their toes in anticipation of the newly upcoming Witcher 4, even though it might be the beginning of a new series.
